Sandland – Terms & Conditions of Entry & Participation

These Terms & Conditions apply to all visitors to Sandland. By booking, entering, or using the Sandland premises or play areas, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.

1. Definitions

  • Sandland refers to the business operating the sand play area.

  • Play Area refers to the sand pit and any associated seating or activity areas.

  • Parent / Guardian refers to the responsible adult accompanying a child.

  • Child refers to any person under the age of 16.

​

2. Supervision & Responsibility

Sandland does not provide childcare or supervision. Parents and guardians remain fully responsible for supervising their child(ren) at all times while on the premises.

Sandland accepts no responsibility for injuries, loss, or damage arising from failure to supervise children appropriately.

3. Participation Waiver

All children using the Play Area must have a completed Child Participation Waiver & Parental Consent Form submitted prior to play.

By completing the waiver, the parent or guardian confirms:

  • They have authority to provide consent on behalf of the child

  • They understand the risks associated with sand play

  • They accept full responsibility for the child’s actions, behaviour, and participation

Sandland reserves the right to refuse entry where a waiver has not been completed.

4. Nature of Activity & Assumed Risks

The Play Area consists of a large sand pit intended for children’s play. Sand play involves normal and foreseeable risks, including but not limited to:

  • Slips, trips, and falls

  • Sand entering eyes, ears, nose, or mouth

  • Minor cuts, scrapes, or bruises

By allowing a child to participate, parents and guardians accept these risks.

5. Sand Ingestion

Sand is not intended to be eaten.

Sandland accepts no responsibility for illness, discomfort, or injury resulting from intentional or accidental ingestion of sand, except where required by law. Responsibility remains with the parent or guardian.

6. Behaviour & Safety Rules

The following behaviours are strictly prohibited:

  • Throwing sand

  • Placing sand in another child’s face, mouth, or eyes

  • Aggressive, reckless, or unsafe behaviour

Sandland reserves the right to:

  • Ask a child to take a break from the Play Area

  • Require a family to leave the premises

  • Refuse future entry in cases of serious or repeated breaches

No refunds will be issued where removal is required due to behaviour or safety concerns.

7. Footwear, Clothing & Hygiene

For hygiene and safety reasons:

  • All shoes must be covered with our provided shoe covers before entering the sand pit or you can take your shoes off and enter with your own socks

  • Only socks or Sandland-approved shoe coverings may be worn in the sand pit

  • Bare feet and outdoor shoes are not permitted

Footwear must be removed on the foam tiles surrounding the sand pit and stored in the racks provided.

Clothing, socks, footwear, and personal belongings may become dirty or damaged during sand play. Sandland accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal items.

Failure to comply with footwear or hygiene rules may result in removal from the Play Area without refund.

8. Health & Medical Conditions

Parents and guardians confirm that their child is fit to participate in sand play.

Children must not use the Play Area if they have:

  • Vomiting or diarrhoea

  • Contagious illness

  • Open or weeping wounds

Any relevant medical conditions, allergies, or additional needs must be disclosed to staff prior to play.

9. Age Suitability

Parents and guardians are responsible for determining whether the Play Area is suitable for their child’s age, ability, and development.

10. Bookings, Peak Times & Time Limits

During busy or peak periods, Sandland operates a time-slot system.

  • Entry may be allocated in 30-minute time slots

  • Coloured wristbands may be issued to indicate end time

  • Families must leave the Play Area and vacate tables promptly when their time ends

Failure to comply may result in removal from the premises without refund.

11. Refund Policy

Refunds are subject to Sandland’s Refund Policy:

  • Standard bookings: Refundable if cancelled at least 24 hours before the booking start time

  • Party bookings: Deposits are refundable only if cancelled at least 72 hours before the scheduled party time

No refunds are given for no-shows, late arrivals, early departures, or removals due to behaviour or safety concerns.

12. Incident Reporting

Any accident or injury, however minor, must be reported to a member of staff immediately.

​

​

13. Data Protection & Privacy

Personal data collected through bookings and waivers is:

  • Stored securely

  • Used only for safety, legal, and operational purposes

  • Not shared with third parties unless required by law

Waiver and booking data is retained for a maximum of 24 months, after which it is securely deleted, unless a longer retention period is required for legal or insurance purposes.

Sandland complies with applicable UK data protection legislation, including the UK GDPR.

14. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so. Otherwise, Sandland shall not be liable for loss, injury, or damage except where caused by negligence and required by law.

15. Changes to Terms & Conditions

Sandland reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions at any time. The most current version will always be available on the website and on the premises.

​

​

16. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Scotland, and any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
